Giving Tuesday was started as a “hashtag movement” in 2011 by the 92nd Street Y in New York as a way to give back after Black Friday, Shop Local Saturday and Cyber Monday.

10 years later it has grown into a nationwide and worldwide movement that encourages people to donate money, time, resources, ideas, voices and efforts to their chosen charity or movement.

Two Rivers Regional Council of Public Officials (TRRC) was established in 1974 as a way to assist local units of government within the counties of Adams, Brown, Pike and Schuyler with professional planning assistance.  The Community Development Department is involved in research and planning for the physical, social and economic development needs of their member counties.  The Community Services Department provides services to the low income of the area. It has an affiliated 501 (c) (3) called the Two Rivers Council Foundation.

The council began administering the first services targeted to low income families in 1976 with the Weatherization program. In 1982 the Council was formally recognized as a Community Action Program (CAP) agency by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and now provides a wide range of direct services to low and moderate income families in the counties of Adams, Brown, Pike and Schuyler. Those services include emergency shelter and meals, rent, utilities, food, furniture, clothing, scholarships, a variety of youth services, housing rehabilitation, weatherization, small business loan program, and much more.

The agency administers the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program for Adams, Brown, Pike and Schuyler counties. WIOA works with low income and untrained individuals, displaced workers and displaced farmers, low income youth, business expansion and retention.
